Owen Lewis QNA
Recently, I caught up with Owen Lewis who is a highly rated centre back for Union College, KY and AC Houston Sur and has previously played for Morecambe FC and Liverpool Football College.
Firstly Owen, who is the best and worst player you've played with so far in your career?
I would say the best player I’ve played with is Ben Marshall whilst I was playing for Stoneclough. He used to play for Leicester, Stoke, Blackburn and few other professional teams. Easily the best technical player I’ve played with.
I don’t really know of any worst players I’ve played with to be honest.
What would you say has been the best and also the worst moment in your career?
I think the best moment of my career so far would’ve been captaining my team in the FA youth cup or maybe having the chance to play football in America.
The worst moment would probably have been getting released from Morecambe at 16.
If you weren't a football player what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t a footballer I would definitely stay in the sport whether it would be within strength and conditioning, physiotherapy or even being an agent would be something I would like.
Owen, who is the hardest player you've come up against in terms of power strikers finishing and skill?
One of the best players I’ve played against would be Jack Williams for Oldham as his speed of dribbling and just pace in general was unreal and difficult to deal with.
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
The strengths in my game I would say are my heading and 1v1 defending but I would say I’ve got a good overall game.
Weaknesses in my game I wouldn’t say there are any clear areas but I would like to improve all areas of my game as it can only help.
Owen, if you could go back in time, and re play any game you've played in that you may have made a mistake or lost, what would you choose and why?
The only game I can think of is a final of a preseason tournament that I made a mistake which led to the other team equalising. Luckily we won the final on penalties but I would’ve been a lot easier without them equalising
Who is your best mate at your team?
On the current team I’m playing for it would be difficult to say one person specifically if I’m honest.
With covid still around Owen, if you could pick one player to stay and not to stay with in isolation, who do you pick and why?
I’ll probably have to say my flat mate and teammate Taylor seeing as I’m going to have to be living with him anyway.
There’s a few people that isolation with them could be a nightmare but I don’t think I could pick one.
One trophy you want to win?
If I could pick one trophy I would like to win it would have to be the champions league I think thats it one of if not the most difficult to win.
Owen, what are your targets for 2022 , apart from staying injury free and more starts than 2020 and 2021 ?
For next season I think a big goal would to win our conference and make the national tournament.
Owen being a footballer it’s unlikely you’ll never get injured, and unfortunately they do occur, so what is the worst injury you have had?
I think the worst injury I’ve had would probably be breaking my nose as I’ve done it a lot of times now and it always is at risk of getting reinjured now .
Finally Owen. What would you say is the one piece of advice you would give to anyone inspiring to become a player like yourself?
If I could give one piece of advice it would be to not let anyone outwork you because then if something doesn’t work out you have no regrets and gave yourself every chance.
Thanks Owen, for taking the time to answer the questions. Hopefully one day you’ll make into the Champions League final and be able to lift the trophy. Good luck with the rest of the season in USA with AC Houston.
